About SOS Day
SOS Day :: It's Mission
The mission of Serve Our Stockton (SOS) Day is to become a catalyst for a shared vision to actively involve neighboring churches, government, for-profit and non-profit organizations, and businesses - to engage in their community in ways that clearly demonstrate the power of God's love through meeting real needs.
SOS Day :: It's Vision
To allow SOS Day to change how the church understands and responds to the community where it is planted, thereby changing how the community perceives the church and Christ.
SOS Day :: It’s Purpose
SOS Day is a catalyst…
- Uniting churches and Christians in specific geographic areas (John 17).
- Mobilizing churches to ascertain and meet the needs in their communities (Ephesians 2:10).
- Living passionate Christian lives as salt and light transforming their communities for Christ (Romans 12:1-2).
Developing opportunities for Christians to learn and develop their gifts in meeting the needs of others (Ephesians 4:11-16).
SOS Day :: It’s Values
Local – people and needs exist in a concrete geographic location. The local church is planted in a specific place and designed to live out the gospel of Christ in loving their neighbor and meeting real needs.
Unity – local churches are specific communities of Christ followers with unique gifts and ministries. Most communities are made up of multiple congregations striving to follow Christ. They are to make every effort in being united in Christ for the furtherance of the Kingdom of God.
Action/Service – as salt and light the church is to engage their communities in living out the gospel of Christ and fostering transformation for the glory of God.
Resource – Western culture is complex, fragmented and saturated with information. We provide a user-friendly tool for local churches to unite and serve their communities effectively and powerfully for Christ.
Excellence – we strive to demonstrate our care through excellence in our service, preparation and communication.
SOS Day :: It’s Leadership
SOS Day is led by a cross section of volunteers and local church staff dedicated to SOS Day’s Mission, Vision and Values. It is the role of the Oversight Committee to ensure the ‘way’ we serve is in response to ‘why’ we serve!
Oversight Committee :: Casts and ensures that the vision of service and unity among partnering churches is carried out. The Oversight Committee is designed to project the needs of each SOS Day, while equipping the Regional Anchors with the necessary resources to provide local church’s and volunteers.
Regional Anchors :: The main point of contact for the Partner Church to SOS Day. Regional Anchors inform, equip, and train Church Liaisons throughout the entire SOS Day process, from start to finish.
Church Liaison :: Champions SOS Day planning and implementation at their respective church. Cultivates relationships with community partners and encourages participation in SOS Day among their church and local community. A Church Liaison may oversee one to upwards of 50 Project Leaders within their church. This role acts as a main point of contact and information for each church. Can be a volunteer and/or paid staff member.
